Valentine’s Day is fast approaching so you start seeing glitter and red hearts everywhere, even at the grocery stores. One of these days they are going to grow vegetables in the shape of a heart. Actually, they already have but it is too costly and time-consuming and not very popular anyway. People still love red hearts, especially throughout social media platforms. But what happens when the red heart has been broken? How can you feel better and hope to build a satisfying relationship in the future? After all, love is not a day in the calendar and it often arrives when you least expect it.

Talk about it

Problems don’t go away on their own unless you talk about them. Surround yourself with good people that will encourage you and make you feel better, the kind of people that will be supportive rather than judgmental. If you have friends that have been through a divorce, even better, call them up.

Seek help

Talking about it is not enough. You may need to seek professional help such as counseling. It is important you learn healthy ways to cope with sadness, especially during Valentine’s Day. Remember divorce is a learning experience. Stop beating yourself up. While perfectionism can make you more successful, it doesn’t mean you are happy. Nobody is perfect and we all learn from our past experiences, no matter how devastating they might be.

Reflect

Think about past relationships and why they failed. Why did you get married? Did you have anything in common with your former spouse? What have you learned? Can you implement the things you have learned in future relationships? These are all questions that only you can answer. You can improve and make others around you happy.

Take a deep breath

It is not over yet. Life will always surprise you with good things. Every day is a new opportunity to start afresh. Deep down you know what you want and what makes you happy. Go for it!

Love yourself this Valentine’s Day

Being divorced doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. You will get through this difficult time and enjoy life. Unfortunately, divorce spikes after Valentine’s Day. So don’t believe every lovebird out there is real. Calling up your ex will not alleviate the pain but make it worse.

You can do it!

Don’t quit. Never lose hope that better things are coming. One day you will look back and realize there was nothing you could have done to change your past but thanks to it you have become wiser, and more assertive.
